France Round 4: Cannes first in the standings, first win for Paris, Montpellier and Ajaccio ok

Round 4 of the French championship was also completed last night. Change at the top of the standings: with the fourth victory in as many matches, Cannes is now first with 10 points, after defeating Rennes away at the tie-break. Montpellier won in straight sets at Poitiers, Ajaccio won 3-1 at home vs. Nice (now at the bottom of the standings) and Paris won at tie-break against Chaumont.
So, another big victory for Cannes: after winning the first set 24:26, the hosts Rennes won without much difficulty the next two, 25:15 and 25:18, always leading the game. The fourth set, the decisive one, was balanced until the end, with Cannes somehow managing to win 26:28 … and then taking also the tie break, as well as its fourth game this season! Now Cannes, with the Tourcoing defeat in straight sets on the Tours field, leads the standings alone with 10 points!
Aciobanitei and Russel were the top scorers fo the winners with 20 points each, while Rodrigues scored 24 for Rennes, and Nascimento mad 6 kill blocks.
Victory without too much difficulty for Montpellier, on the Poitiers field, in straight sets. For the home team, only El Graoui achieved a double digit performance (15 points and 67% in attack), while Sclater was practically perfect on the winning side, scoring 22 points, including 2 aces, and 74% in attack!
After losing the first set 23:25, Ajaccio claim a big victory against Nice, literally destroying the opponents in the third set, won with a score of 25:13! Nice, now alone on the bottom of the standings with two points and a single win, could only count on Cox’s 20 points and a good performance with the blocks of its middleblockers (5 kill blocks by Ah-Kong, and 4 for Cuk) . On the other hand, Ajaccio really played a good game: Miseikes was the best scorer of the winners with 17 points and 61% in attack, followed by Truhtchev (15) and Milivojevic (13).
The first victory for Paris, against runners-up Chaumont, closes the curtain on Round 4. The hosts won a balanced first set, with Chaumont reacting in the next two. The hosts, at a disadvantage 1-2, managed to win the fourth set 25:17 and literally overwhelm their opponents, 15:9, at the tie break, deservedly taking their first victory.
Dutch opposite Robin Overbeeke was the top scorer for Paris with 22 points, followed by Barreto Silva with 18 while Winkelmuller scored 21 for Chaumont.
