1 min read

Venezuela have progressed to the 2020 Tokyo Games thanks to their victory over Peru, but also to a combination of results on the last day of the South American Volleyball Olympic Qualifier in Santiago, Chile.
A defeat on Saturday in 5 sets against Colombia had left Venezuela depending not only on their results in the last round. They did their share by beating Peru 3-0 (25:19, 25:16, 25:16). Luis Arias was the top scorer for Venezuela with 17 points, including 4 winning blocks, while Eduardo Romay scored 14 for Peru.
This match was followed by a clash of the teams whose hopes for participating at the Tokyo Olympics were alive prior to Venezuelaā€™s victory. Actually, in these circumstances, only Colombia had a chance to go to the Japanese capital but the hosts played for the honor and prevailed in four sets (25:22, 22:25, 25:21, 25:19), sending Venezuela to Tokyo.
This will be the 2nd appearance of the Volleyball Team of Venezuela in the Olympics, the first was in the 2008 Beijing Games.
