Germany: Bundesliga presents concept for resuming volleyball activities and returning spectators to halls

2 min read

The German volleyball league (Volleyball Bundesliga – VBL) has developed a concept for resuming training and matches for the 2020/21 that provides the optimal conditions for players, rules for the admission of spectators, and the best possible protection for everyone involved in training and matches which are planned to start in September/October.
Of course, the final decision to resume training and matches rests with the state government and local authorities.
The decision about the admission of spectators into halls should be made by the clubs in close coordination with the local health authorities. This means that a protection and hygiene concept for the spectatorsā€™ area is to be presented to each club, depending on the local infection rate and the infrastructure of the halls on which the number of spectators that will be allowed to enter halls will be adjusted for each club.

An important part of the concept development is the close coordination between the VBL and its clubs through which the clubs can develop a venue-specific concept with information on distance regulations, contact tracking, and hall ventilation. The VBL stressed that the concept canā€™t offer 100 % security for clubs and people involved and now awaits the response of the government.

Moreover, the VBL announced dates for the Super Cup. Unlike previous seasons when both menā€™s and womenā€™s final matches were played the same day, this year the event will be divided into two days: womenā€™s final will be held on September 27, while men will play on October 11.
