The youngster Diego Cantagalli set the new record of the Italian volleyball competitions for points in a single match.
Diego Cantagalli is the son of a one-time FIVB World Championship and CEV European Championship winner with the Italy National Team, Luca Cantagalli, also known as the ‘Bazooka’.
Yesterday, the 20-year-old opposite of Sieco Service Ortona scored 46 points in the second division (Serie A2 Credem Banca) match against Emma Villas Aubay Siena (3-2).
Such a display allowed Cantagalli to overtake a record held by Venezuelan-Italian José Matheus for 20 years (45 points, also in A2). Cuban Raydel Poey is in third place on the list with 44 points in A2 in 2016. The two outputs from the top division, SuperLega, follow the above-mentioned trio: Giulio Sabbi (42 points in 2013/14) and the Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz (41 points in 2019/20).
