Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie upset leaders and titleholders Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle (who already secured first place in the charts) in Round 24 of the 2020/21 Polish PlusLiga regular season. Such a situation let their head coach Nikola Grbić make rotations in the lineup, giving chances to backups in the match against 6th placed (prior to the match) Aluron, who took advantage of it and inflicted the second defeat in a row to ZAKSA in the competition. Aluron swept rivals by a 3-0 (25:18, 25:23, 25:19) mostly thanks to Mateusz Malinowski, autho of 13 points and Brazilian Flávio Gualberto who also contributed with blocks.
In just one week, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów managed to down two major title contenders, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and VERVA Warszawa ORLEN Paliwa. Resovia took revenge on the team from the Polish capital for the recent defeat in PlusLiga of 3-2 and beat them in 4 sets today. Karol Butryn top-scored the winning side with 19 points, while Fabian Drzyzga served 4 aces.
The day then ended with Stal Nysa’s 3-1 victory over Olsztyn, a result that sanctioned the mathematical relegation of MKS Bedzin.
