Cev Cup: St. Petersburg comes back from 14:10 to 16:18 in the golden set and flies to the final!

1 min read

Incredible epilogue for the first semifinal of the CEV Cup: Greenyard Maaseik, on the field with the 19-year-old setter Mccluskey in place of the Iranian Karimi, dominates the regular match against the prediction by 3-0 against Zenit St. Petersburg who suffer due to the absence of Poletaev and Kliuka’s bad evening.
The Belgians caress the upset even in the golden set with Melkozerov’s foul (11:9) after a negative reception by Ursov, Esfandiar’s ace (entered only for the serve, 12:9) and Martinez’s counterattack (14:10), that seem to take the decisive break. Instead, after the point of Ursov (14:11), Pashitskii blocks Martinez (14:12), Podrebinkin makes the half point from the service line and closes in counterattack (14:13) and Cox attacks out (14:14).
St. Petersburg still saves 2 qualifying balls (15:15, 16:16), and then flies to the final with the kill blocks by Kliuka over Maan (16:17) and Iakovlev over Verhees (16:18).
Ivan Podrebinkin stood out on the Russian side with 16 points, while Egor Kliuka had 70% reception (6 digs, 37% excellent). Jolan Cox scored 16 points for Maaseik, while the Dutchman Jelte Maan served 5 aces.
