Italy: Trentino prevail in roller coaster on the field of Lube and take lead in playoff semifinals! Ravenna, Milano and Cisterna ok for 5th place

3 min read

After Perugia, also Itas Trentino took the lead in the semifinal series of the 2020/21 Italian SuperLega Credem Banca playoffs by beating on the road Cucine Lube Civitanova.
The semifinal series between the 2nd-seed Lube and third placed Trentino started with an amazing and uncertain battle until the last point: after 5 very heated sets and continuous reversals, it is the guests who prevailed at tie break: 3-2 (23:25, 25:21, 21:25, 26:24, 15:12).
Ricardo Lucarelli excelled for the winners, who managed to gather strength to win today even though they played an exhausting match against Sir Safety Conad Perugia in the CEV Champions League, only four days ago: the Brazilian outside-hitter put down 25 points, including 5 aces, while Serbian Marko PodraŔčanin set up 5 blocks and Abdel-Aziz also contributed with 21 points. Rychlicki (with Monza’s jersey next season?) was the most prolific player on the other side of the net with 19 points.

In the other matches of Round 1 valid for playoffs for fifth place and a spot in next edition of CEV Challenge Cup (yesterday Piacenza defeated Verona at tie break), Consar Ravenna wins at tie break on the field of very favorite Leo Shoes Modena, led by Recine, author of 26 points.
Kione Padova (without starting setter Kawika Shoji, back to United States due to a finger injury collected in the match with the same rivals in Superlega regular season), on the field of Allianz Milano, was very close to stun the Challenge Cup winners with a 1-2 lead, however the hosts managed to win the game after almost two hours of play.
Close the picture another upset: last-placed Top Volley Cisterna who destroyed a reworked Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia in straight sets, partially 25:12, 25:18, 25:18. The Round 2 will be played on wednesday. Complete calendar here.
