Italy: Perugia first finalist, Lube take over the lead vs. Trentino. Two tie breaks in playoffs for 5th place.

3 min read

There is the Scudetto Final, the fifth in the club’s history, in the Easter egg of Sir Safety Conad Perugia, which also wins Game 3 against Vero Volley Monza. Vital Heynen’s team thus closes a difficult series, and will have the opportunity to take revenge against Trento or Civitanova who, during the season, broke their dreams of glory, respectively in the Champions League and the Italian Cup. Wilfredo Leon had 19 points in Perugia, while Sebastian Sole had a superb performance: the Argentine middle-blocker was named MVP of the match with 16 points, 4 blocks and 85% in attack. On the other side of the net Adis Lagumdzija and Filippo Lanza scored 14 points each.
For Monza, however, an extraordinary season ends, with a historic result in the Playoffs, and prestigious victories also in Regular Season (twice against Perugia and Modena, and once against Trento).

In the other semifinal, Cucine Lube Civitanova defeats Itas Trentino and now looks to the continuation of the series with the advantage of two match balls for access to the final. It was an ambiguous match but Blengini’s team deserved to win. On the other side of the net, Trento has appeared too dependent on Abdel Aziz’s performance. After a first set narrowly won, the hosts picked up the pace from the second set. In race 4, in Trento, they will be able to look for the knockout blow. Yoandy Leal was deservedly named MVP of the match with 20 points, 61% in attack, 35% positive in reception, 2 aces and 4 blocks), while Rychlicki and Simon had 15 points each. On the other side, Nimir Abdel-Aziz had 20 as well, having only a 39% in the attack.

As for the playoffs for fifth place, after the three-point victories in Milano and Padova yesterday, respectively against Modena and Vibo Valentia, two tie breaks close Round 3. In the first, Gas Sales Piacenza wins on the field of Top Volley Cisterna with a great battle between opposites on both sides: Sabbi scored 28 for the hosts, while Finger 24 in Piacenza’s jersey.
In the other match Verona wins at home in 5 sets against Consar Ravenna led by Kaziyski who, with 24 points, was named MVP of the match.
