Italy: Padova sweep Trentino, Lube break 3-game losing streak, 2nd defeat of Modena in 3 matches, Milano, Monza and Perugia ok

The mid-week round of the 2021/22 Italian SuperLega Credem Banca, Round 4, brought a lot of great matches as well as a couple of interesting upsets.
The biggest one was the away victory of Kioene Padova over big favorite Itas Trentino, which were invincible so far and which downed titleholders Cucine Lube Civitanova in the previous round. Well…actually, looking at the charts, the great triumph of the team commanded by Jacopo Cuttini is not such an upset because now, it has the same win-loss ratio as Trentino (3-1)! What might worry Trentino staff more than a defeat is Alessandro Micchieletto, who injured his ankle in the second set and remained on the bench for the remainder of the encounter. Mattia Bottolo and German Linus Weber led Padova to the 2-3 success (25:17, 28:30, 24:26, 25:16, 17:19) with 24 and 22 points respectively, while Marco Vitelli set up five winning blocks.

On the other matches of the day, Cucine Lube Civitanova ended their own losing streak of three matches (including all competitions, including Italian SuperCup) as they swept last-placed and winless Verona Volley at home with a clear 3-0 (25:22, 25:20, 25:20) even though they once again played without Juantorena and Kovář, as well as without Zaytsev (since the start of the season).
Cuban Marlon Yant was the best scorer for the winners with 15 points.

Another upset happened in Modena, whete Leo Shoes PerkinElmer don’t play according to the expectations, despite a great number of international stars the club signed in the off-season. And in fact, they suffered their second loss in three games, this time 1-3 against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, led by Turkish Adis Lagumdžija, who scored 25 points. Francesco Recine also contributed with five aces, and American Maxwell Holt made four winning blocks.
However, this failure should not be considered tragic by Modena’s supporters, given it happened against the team that has been playing on the highest level so far, and Piacenza is one of the two with a perfect record (4-0).

The other team who boast a perfect record (3-0) is Sir Safety Conad Perugia, which prevailed on the field of newcomers Gioiella Prisma Taranto in four sets (25:19, 23:25, 25:16, 25:17). Luxembourger Kamil Rychlicki and Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León were the top scorer of the match with 15 points each for the winners, while Giulio Sabbi made 20 points on the other side of the net.

3 points also for Allianz Milano and Vero Volley Monza, who defeats on the road Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia and still winless Consar RCM Ravenna, respectively.
About Milano, the match was no easy, despite it ended in straight sets. Partially it was 20:25, 29:31 and 23:25. However, the team coached by Roberto Piazza was better in crucial moments of the game, and managed to win without give a single set to the rivals. French opposite Jean Patry was the top scorer of the match with 19 points, while Japanese Nishida made 16 for the hosts.
About Monza, they win on the field of Consar RCM Ravenna in four sets 1-3 (17:25, 19:25, 25:19, 14:25), led again by Georg Grozer, top scorer of the match with 21 points.
