Italy: Modena defeats Perugia in big match of Round 8. Victory also for Padova, Trento, Civitanova and Verona

Round 8 of italian Superlega CredemBanca was completed tonight.
Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena emerged victoriously in the big match of the day against Sir Safety Conad Perugia.
After the shaky start of the season, Modena won a marathon in away match against Perugia at one of the hottest atmospheres existing in the European volleyball. The winners prevailed in what seemed like an infinite match in the tie-break, despite the hosts were close to making a complete turnaround as they leveled at 2-2 after being two sets down.
Modena were led tonight by the Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth, author of 22 points, including four aces, while Serbian Dragan Stanković set up four blocks. Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León scored 26 points for Perugia, while American Matthew Anderson had four blocks. For Modena, this was the second win in a row, while Perugia’s victorious streak of four games came to an end.

On the other matches of the day, the leaders Cucine Lube Civitanova easily swept Consar RCM Ravenna and achieved the seventh successive triumph in the competition, while Padova claim a very important victory at the Arena di Monza.
Massimo Eccheli’s team returned to the Monza Arena where had gained back their confidence after suffering two straight defeats against Lube and Trento, and last weekend they took home two very important points after their thrilling 2-3 victory on the field of Cisterna (who yesterday defeated Milano on the road in a record match).
However on the other side of the net today Kioene Padova showed a very good level and proved that they are a tough opponent: Cuttini’s side, currently sixth in the standings, before this match they had 4 wins and only 2 defeats, and they have had a very positive season so far beating Piacenza and Trento 3-2. And today’s new victim was Monza, with the same result.
Bottolo and Weber were on fire: the italian youngster was named MVP of the match with 23 points, while the German opposite was the top scorer with 27 points.
On the other side of the net, top scorers were Dzavoronok with 21 points and Grozer with 22, but today it wasn’t enough as, after more than two hours of play, the guests took home a deservedly (and fantastic) victory.

Three points also for Verona Volley, who defeats at home Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia in a thrilling 3-1 (25:22, 25:22, 26:28, 26:24), led by Mozic, author of 27 points, and Itas Trentino, who recovered Kazyiski and defeats newcomers Gioiella Prisma Taranto on the road with the same result: 1-3 (23:25, 27:25, 18:25, 19:25).
