Coupe de France: Chaumont defeat Tours at tie break to lift first trophy in club history!

After two finals lost against Tourcoing (2018) and the same Tours (2019), Chaumont put in showcase first Coupe De France, French Cup, in club history after defeating, a little bit surpringly, favorite and regular season absolute leaders Tours 2-3 (20:25, 25:21, 23:25, 25:22, 17:19).
Applauses for the winners who saved three match points, more precisely the 15:14, 16:15, and 17:16.
Well…Tours had believed they won the match at 17-15, but the video check invalidated the point (the ball touched Pierre Derouillon). Silvano Prandi’s guys embraced such a gift and deservedly took the first-ever national cup in the club history.
And Tours, on the other hand, succumbed in the second major final in 10 days after losing the CEV Cup duel against Italy’s Vero Volley Monza.

The decisive set was very exciting and played at very high level.
It started with Herrera, who scored three points in a row, 1-4 for Chaumont. Tours react, taking advantage from Leandro’s serves: point from Palonsky, and an error from Herrera, which is worth the 5-5. The Cuban also give the points of 7-6, but redeem himself with tje great counterattack of 8-9. Plak blocks Derouillon, 8-10, who blocks Gutierrez for the 10-10. Defense on Plak’s attack, and a great Leandro put down the ball of 11-10.
New break point on the attack out of Derouillon, then a great Herrera signs first match point, but Tours don’t agree, and react once again with Leandro in serving, 15-14.
17-15 and Tours can celebrate but…the game isn’t over because a long videocheck invalidated the point, and this is 16-16.
Tours play a last match point, but Chaumont don’t give up and close with a block from Plak over Palonsky, for the final 17-19!

The man of the match was Herrera, who ended the game with an impressive amount of 34 points, 67% and 49% efficiency in attack, 1 block and 3 aces.
