WCH 2022: All results of August 28 @ Katowice – Poland

2022 FIVB World Championship continued today also in Katowice with two matches valid for Pool C. After they swept Bulgaria in their second match, only some arithmetical combinations stand in the way of the United States to definitely qualify for the Round of 16, as they are 2-0 and 6 points at the moment.
On the other hand, Bulgaria suffered a second defeat in a row and thus, they remained without a victory in the competition and with minimal chances to advance to the elimination phase.
Things today couldāve been different for Bulgaria if theyāve taken advantage of one of the three set balls in the third set, as they were up by 24-21.
Torey DeFalco was the top scorer among the winners with 13 points, while setter Micah Christenson had 4 winning blocks. Tsvetan Sokolov put down 15 points for Bulgaria, while Aleks Grozdanov set up 4 blocks. Partially it was 25:20, 25:23 and 26:24.
On the other match of the day, Everything is going according to plan for co-host Poland, who defeated Mexico with a clear 3-0 (25:17, 25:14, 25:19), reaching 2-0 and 6 points in the standings.
The match was as it was supposed to look for the 12,000 fans at the wonderful Spodek Arena. Starters played only the first set for Poland, then backups got a chance by the head coach Nikola GrbiÄ.
Todayās victory ensured the promotion to the round of 16. On Tuesday, at the end of the group stage, theyāll play against the United States, who also benefited from Poland vs Mexico result and secured a playoff berth.
Tomasz Fornal top-scored Poland with 10 points, while Karol KÅos set up 4 blocks. Diego GonzĆ”lez was the most prolific player with 14 points for Mexico.
