Turkey: Round 1 is complete. Titleholders Ziraat start their campaign on right foot, Abdel-Aziz debuts for Halkbank with 88% attack and the others…

After a not perfect debut on Friday for Fenerbahçe, the other two title contenders Ziraat Bankkart and Halkbank set off their 2022-23 Turkish Volleyball Championship campaigns with clear wins.

Three days after their triumph in the national Super Cup, Ziraat Bankkart were successful at their debut of the 2022/23 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi. The two-time defending champions defeat Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyespor 3-0 (28:26, 26:24, 25:21) at home, but only after having to work hard in the first two sets, especially in the second, in which they were 16-21 down. With 17 points, the Dutchman, Wouter Ter Maat, was Ziraat’s most
prolific player, while Faik Samet Güneş made 4 blocks.

The vice-champions Halkbank, were confident, sweeping newcomers and last season’s second division winners Develi Belediyespor. The match ended in straight sets too, 25:22, 25:17 and 25:17.
The Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz, whose arrival in Halkbank was one of the biggest transfer bombs in the offseason, had a great debut scoring 24 points through an 88% attack (21/24)!

About the others, Arkas Spor struggled with Altekma but prevailed at tie break 2-3 (25:23, 15:25, 25:23, 23:25, 9:15), while Galatasaray HDI Sigorta swept Tokat Belediye Plevne in straight sets (23:25, 20:25, 27:29).
Türsad win in four sets on the field of Hatay (17:25, 25:27, 25:21, 20:25), while Hekimoglu defeat favorite Spor Toto 3-2 (25:20, 17:25, 19:25, 25:22, 15:10).
