France: Toulouse, Nice and Poitiers win Saturday’s games of Round 9. Chaumont and Tours KO!

2 min read

After the advance played yesterday and in which Nantes defeat Saint Nazaire on the road, Round 9 of 2022/23 French Ligue A continued today with other three games.
The day started with an upset: Toulouse’s home win over leaders Chaumont.
The clash ended at tie break (25:20, 26:24, 15:25, 19:25, 15:13), with the hosts who even had a 2-0 lead. Then the reaction of Chaumont, but the half comeback wasn’t enough, as eventually the match is won by a great Toulouse, who now share the tenth place in the current charts together with Plessis Robinson, Poitiers and Paris (who on Monday will face Narbonne at home).
Chaumont, on the other hand, remain to the top because of another upset: Tours’ defeat on the field of Poitiers! The game ended in straight sets, partially 26:24, 25:18 and 25:23, and Gabriel Da Silva made the difference, scoring 26 points through 65% in attack, 3 of his team’s 9 winning blocks and 1 ace.
The second-placed Tours, on the other hand, played a quite disappointing game, with only opposite Drame Neto who tried to save the game (19 points, 55% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block), as well as the only one who reach a double digit).
Close the picture a great performance of Nice, who defeat Cambrai at home 3-0 (25:23, 25:22, 25:19), celebrating their third seasonal win and the second one in a row after the success on the field of Plessis Robinson, a week ago.
The winners played a good team performance, with middle-blocker Rodney Ah-Kong named MVP of the game (12 points, 70% in attack and 5 winning blocks), and other three players in double digit: Célestin Cardin with 15 points, 1 ace and 61% in attack, captain Steven Marshall, who also contributed with 14 (2 aces, including the one who made the difference in first set, and 1 block) and François Rebeyrol with 13, all in attack.
This result changed the standings: Nice now boast 10 points, and that’s mean 9th place in the standings (-1 from playoffs zone), while Cambrai slip to the little painful last place, with 7 points and -1 from the other four, all with 8 points.
