Champions League: ZAKSA block Trento in remake of last two superfinals to become last semifinalist!

Following the match tonight between Itas Trentino and Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, we know the name of all 2022/23 CEV Champions League semi-finalists: Poland’s Jastrzębski Węgiel, Italy’s Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia, Turkey’s Halkbank Ankara, and now also another team from Poland: Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle!

The reigning European champions, progressed to the next stage of the competition after a thrilling encounter in Italy, against Trentino Itas, in what was a remake of last two editions of Superfinals (both won by the Plusliga side).
Despite losing the match 2-3 (19:25, 25:23, 29:27, 21:25, 12:15), Polish team secured their place in the semifinals by winning the decisive Golden Set with a clear 15-9.
In fact, ZAKSA emerged victorious in the first match in Poland a week ago, winning by 3-2.

The match was highly competitive and played on a very high level, with both teams displaying great determination.
Trento’s Matey Kaziyski was once again the top scorer, scoring 28 points through 50% attack, 3 aces and 1 block, while Alessandro Michieletto also contributed with 23 (59% attack, 5 aces, and 1 block).
For ZAKSA, Łukasz Kaczmarek was the most prolific player, scoring 27 points through 50% attack, 1 ace, and 3 blocks), while Bartosz Bednorz added 20 (50% attack, 1 ace, and 6 blocks).

Both teams performed well from the service line with 13 aces each, but ZAKSA was significantly better in blocking with 19 points from this element, compared to Trentino’s 12!

In the semifinals, Halkbank Ankara will face Jastrzębski Węgiel, while Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will play against Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
