Italy: win for Trento and Civitanova in Semifinal Game 1 – Piacenza and Milano defeated in straight sets!

After a thrilling Games 5 of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca Playoffs Quarterfinals, Semifinal Series started today with a double 3-0: No.2 in regular season Itas Trentino
over No.6 Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza (author of a fantastic comeback on Sunday from 2-0, that eliminated the hosts Modena), and No.4 Cucine Lube Civitanova over Allianz Milano, who made the major upset of the season eliminating regular season leaders Sir Safety Susa Perugia.

But today both stories are different.
In front of a of about 3,000 home fans at the Eurosuole Forum, Cucine Lube Civitanova demonstrated their home advantage by defeating Milano in just three sets (25:17, 25:22, 25:17).
The hosts were better above all from the service line, with 4 aces to 1 and played an impressive performance attack (65% vs 47%).
With libero Balaso named MVP
of the match, Aleksandar Nikolov was once again the top scorer with 17 points (60% attack, 2 aces), while Marlon Yant also contributed 13 points including 3 block points, and Ivan Zaytsev added 10 (82% attack, 1 ace).
Despite Allianz Milano efforts, only Jean Patry reached a double digit with 12 points to his name, while middle blockers Agustin Loser and captain Matteo Piano scored 2 blocks each.
In first set only the hosts were on the field, who attacked with a great 68% against 46% of the rivals. Lube had the absolute control of the game and close with a clear 25-17, with 6 points by Yant and a good play.
After a balanced start in second set, to make the difference in Nikolov’s serve (9 points in this set with an ace). Milano react, but Civitanova put down the point of 21-20 and then close the set 25-22 without major problems.
Third set one-sided again, with the hosts solid in attack and reception, but also from the service line. After a conspicuous lead 19-11, Zaytsev close set and game with the ace of 25-17.

And almost the same happened in the other match of the day, in which Itas Trentino managed to defeat Gas
Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in just three sets (25:23, 25:22, 25:18).
The visiting side fought only in first set, with a 19-21 lead, until the 22-23 before 2 heavy errors, Leal served out, and Lucarelli did the same in attack, and the result is the 25-23 in favor of Trento, who made the difference in blocking (11 points from this element at the end of the match, 9 form Serbian duo Lisinac-Podrascanin) and attack.
And then, for Piacenza, the match is basically over: after losing also second set, the third ended with a clear 25-18 thanks to a very good Daniele Lavia, who ended the game with 13 points through 63% in attack, but decisive also Michieletto who added 8 points (most of them in decisive moments of the game) and Captain Kaziyski, who also contributed with 11 points after a silent start.
Nobody on the other side of the net ended the game in double digit.
