VNL 2023: first win for Germany. Host Canada defeated in four sets! The balance of Week 1

Week 1 of 2023 Volleyball Nations League has been closed with Pool 1 match in Ottawa, Canada, with a four sets win of Germany, the first one in competition, with the score of 1-3 (25:20, 17:25, 21:25, 21:25).
Outside hitter Tobias Brand and opposite Yan Böhme were the most prolific players among the winners with 20 and 19 points, while Tobias Krick also contributed with 4 his team’s 11 winning blocks.
Ryan Sclater was once again the most effective player for Canada with 16 points.

Last 24 hours have decided the final standing after the first week of VNL. The big upset is Japan, the only team still undefeated.
Behind them, as many as 5 teams with 3 wins in four games: USA, Argentina, Slovenia and Brazil with 9 points, and Poland, with 7. The same number of points of The Netherlands, but with a 2-2 record.
