VNL 2023: USA destroy Italy and join Poland to the final!

USA will face hosts Poland, who down Japan in first semifinal, on Sunday’s gold medal match, and they did it after a very strong victory against Italy!
For the winners, this will be their third VNL final, as they lost to Russia in the second edition, in 2019, and fell to Olympic champions France last season, but they also took a Bronze Medal in VNL inaugural edition, in 2018.
Today they were incredibly dominant at the Ergo Arena, as they gave no chance to world champions, closing the game with a clear 3-0 (25:19, 25:18, 25:19) in one hours and 25 minutes of play.

36-year-old Olympic medalist opposite Matt Anderson was decisive in the American victory with 17 points, all in attack, though 64% efficiency rate, while Outside hitters Thomas Jaeschke and Torey Defalco also contributed with 27 points in two.
The first scored 16 points, including two blocks and two aces, while the second added 11, including three blocks.

The USA limited the Italian attack, as no European player got to reach double digits in attack!
Outside hitters Alessandro Michieletto and Daniele Lavia were the most prolific players with nine and eight points, respectively, but the American dominance was also in kills (44 to 33) and blocks (ten to six), besides taking advantage also from more opponent errors (18 to 13).
Italy only served the most aces, prevailing in that element by four to three.
