After the Pool A debut played yesterday, in which hosts and defending champions Italy easily defeat Belgium in front of more than 8000 volleyball fans in Bologna, other two Pools of CEV Eurovolley 2023 started today in Varna, Bulgaria and Tel-Aviv, Israel.
Not a good start for Pool B hosts Bulgaria, who suffered a defeat against a good Spain, who managed to close the game 3-1 (25:17, 25:21, 21:25, 25:19), mostly thanks to the performances of two players, Andrea Villena, top scorer of the match with 24 points through 68% in attack including 3 winning blocks, and Jordi Ramon Ferragut, who also contributed with 21 points, 5 of Spainโs 7 aces, 1 block and an impressive 79% in attack (15/19, only one error and zero blocked).
Nothing to do for the players around head coach Plamen Konstantinov, despite the effort of Tsvetan Sokolov, who close the game with 22 points through 68% in attack and 1 block.
Pool B will continue tomorrow with the games between Slovenia and Ukraine while, in the evening, Finland will face Croatia.
In Pool D, Greece played a great game, but it wasnโt enough to stop hosts Israel, who closed the game with the score of 2-3 (17:25, 29:27, 25:21, 21:25, 13:15)
Adding to the nightโs drama, Ido David emerged as the top scorer of the game with an impressive amount of 25 points through 52% in attack on the winning side while, for Greece, Dimitrios Mouchlias was the most prolific player, finishing the game with 17 points.
