September 2 was a day without matches about CEV Eurovolley 2023 Pool A as, after 3 days in Perugia, Italy, it will restart tomorrow at Palarossini, Ancona.
But the competition continued.
In Pool B at iconic Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria, Slovenia celebrated third win in as many games, and today the victory came against Spain, after just 75 minutes of play (25:19, 25:15, 25:15).
Top scorers of the game were Klemen Cebulj with 17 points, and captain Tine Urnaut with 14, while no players on the losing side reached a double digit.
Bulgaria, playing in the second match of the day, managed to comeback from an initial first-set loss to celebrate a four-set victory over Ukraine. With scores of 20:25, 25:17, 25:20, and 25:23, the hosts improved their record to 2-1, currently placing them second in Pool B with six points. Martin Atanasov led the teamโs scoring with 18 points, followed by Aleksandar Nikolov and Tsvetan Sokolov who added 13 and 11 points respectively. Ukraineโs top scorer Oleh Plotnytskyi scored 18 points too but couldnโt prevent his team from remaining winless, relegating them to the bottom of the current charts.
