BFV, the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BFV), is ready to hire Gianlorenzo Blengini as the new head coach of the national menās volleyball team, as revealed by sportal.bg.
Italian expert, currently at the helm of Cucine Lube Civitanova, is expected to conclude his duties with the Superlega powerhouse and focus only on the Bulgarian team.
The 51-year-old was the favored choice in a recent Bulgarian Volleyball Federation Executive Board meeting, winning over current head coach Plamen Konstantinov and former coach Martin Stoev.
Bulgarian Volleyball Federation President Ljubo Ganev detailed the selection process, noting that Blenginiās full-time commitment to the national team was a decisive factor and that his contract, spanning three years with an optional two-year extension based on performance in 2025 and 2026, reflects this.
Blenginiās engagement with Bulgarian volleyball began through his observations of young Bulgarian players at Lube Volley, recognizing their potential during a training exchange with Levski Sofia, factors that played a significant role in the negotiations.
The contract focuses on developing young talent and achieving specific targets which could lead to Olympic qualification.
Ganev also emphasized the importance of these goals in raising Bulgariaās standing in international volleyball, and expressed confidence in Italian coachās ability to lead the team to success.
