Round 9 of 2023/24 continued today with other three games.
In a big classic of Polish volleyball, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów needed only three sets to down a disappointing PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów, 3-0 (25:20, 25:23, 25:21), relegated only at 13th place this season with only 7 points and 3 victories, the last one a week ago against Projekt Warszawa.
In front of 3200 home fans and after 90 minutes of play, setter Fabian Drzyzga was named MVP of the game with also 5 points, 3 blocks and 2 aces, while top scorer Torey Defalco tallied 14 points with 1 ace and 68% in attack.
Dawid Konarski was the only player in double digit on the losint side with 13 points.
The day continued with other two straight sets win.
Projekt Warszawa easily defeated Ślepsk Malow Suwałki, partially 25:15, 25:22 and 25:13, in a game that saw the first game with the jersey of the team from country’s capital of U.S. middle blocker Taylor Averill (6 points, 100% in attack with 4/4 and 2 blocks), and a great performance from MVP Artur Szalpuk, absolute top scorer of the match with 21 points to his name through 67% in attack without errors or blocked, 2 winning blocks and 3 aces. On the losing side only Bartosz Filipiak reached a double digit scoring 10 points but with only 33% in attack.
Close the picture the away win of current leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel on the field of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin – 0-3 (14:25, 21:25, 11:25) in front of 4200 volleyball fans at Lublin’s HSW Globus.
Tomasz Fornal and Norbert Huber were the most prolific players of the match with 14 points each, with the first one awarded MVP with 69% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 1 ace, while the second also contributed with 60% in attack, 5 of the winners’ 10 aces and 3 winning blocks. Among the hosts, who struggled a lot against a too strong rival, no players ended the game in double digit, with Alexandre Ferreira who left the court with 9 points.
Round 9 will close tomorrow with last two games. In the first one Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will face at home Trefl Gdańsk in an interesting clash for third place, while Champions League winners and No.8 in the standings Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle will welcome No.12 KGHM Cuprum Lubin.
