Guaguas Las Palmas triumph in Final of 2023/24 XLIX Copa de SM el Rey after a clear 3-0 (25:17, 25:17, 25:20) victory over Unicaja Costa Almería in front of more than 4000 volleyball fans in Leganes, winning a trophy that missed since 2021.
This was eighth Cup in club’s history, and the second one after their rebirth, in 2020.
The cup has been assigned with Final Eight formula: in semifinal, Guaguas surpassed Cisneros Alter with the score of 3-1 and Almería defeated Conectabalear CV Manacor with the same result, who caused a sensation after eliminating in Quarterfinals most quoted Rio Duero Soria.
MVP of Final veteran setter Miguel Angel de Amo, able to send three of his players in double digit: brazilian Wallace Souza, top scorer with 15 points to his name, italian Paolo Zonca, author of 13 points and Argentina National Team member Nicolas Bruno, who added 10.
But successes are not over for Guaguas who, on Thursday, will played a historic Champions League quarterfinals against Turkish powerhouse Ziraat Bank Ankara.
