Finally Plusliga is back!
And 2024/25 Poland’s elite competition opened with a thrilling game between last season’s runners up Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, ended after as many as 182 minutes of play with the score of 2-3 (29:27, 22:25, 23:25, 25:20, 12:15) in favor of the visiting side.
Led by setter Marcin Komenda, who earned first MVP title of the new season, and despite very similar numbers in both sides’ performance, the winners, without superstar Wilfredo Leon (on the bench), were better in decisive fifth set, led in score by a very good Kewin Sasak, top scorer for Lublin with 22 points to his name (including 2 winning blocks, 1 ace and 48% in attack), and middle-blocker Aleks Grozdanov, who added 11 points through 67% in attack and 3 winning blocks.
However, the most prolific player of the match was bomber Karol Butryn, who left the court with 23 points in Aluron’s jersey (51% in attack and 2 winning blocks).
Round 1 will continue on Saturday with other three games: PGE Projekt Warszawa will face ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Cuprum Stilon Gorzów (former Cuprum Lubin) will welcome Trefl Gdańsk while, in the evening, Ukraine’s Barkom Każany Lwów will face defending champions Jastrzębski Węgiel.
