HYPO TIROL volleyball team is 2024 Austrian Volley Supercup winner, just like in 2023!
The titleholders beat ΓVV Cup winners SK Zadruga Aich/Dob by 3-1 (25:23, 21:25, 25:13, 25:18) on Saturday evening in a well-attended JUFA Arena Bleiburg.
A few hours earlier, the women of TI-axess-volley had successfully defended their Supercup title from last year with a clear 3-0 (25:22, 25:16, 25:20) win over ATSC Kelag Wildcats Klagenfurt.
The championship starts next weekend.
Hosts Aich/Dob was able to stay in the game in first set until 11:12, but then HYPO TIROL scored four points in a row. This laid the foundation for winning the set, as the hostsβ attempt to perform a comeback came too late.
The Innsbruck side, who have already successfully completed a CEV Champions League round, played a little more solidly than the newly formed Aich/Dob. Second set was very balanced, with both sides delighting volleyball fans with spectacular attacks, Aich/Dob took the lead, but HYPO TIROL followed them until 18-18. Then the Carinthians scored three points in a row (21-18) and managed to level the score, 1-1.
However, Aich/Dob then lost some of their momentum, and the rivals played the third set very confidently, able to close it with a clear 13-25.
The hosts initially took the lead in the fourth set, 6-4, but HYPO TIROL kept up the service pressure, and with a 4-0 run to 11-7 the champions closed the game after After 110 minutes of play with Arthur Nath who converted the first match point.
