Two teams claimed today their tickets for Third Round of 2024/25 CEV Champions League to continue their path towards prestigious Group Stage in European elite club competition.
The first one is Orion Stars Doetinchem from The Netherlands who, after a straight sets win in first leg, repeated themselves also in Serbia, celebrating a clean 0-3 (20:25, 20:25, 19:25) win on the field of Crvena Zvezda Beograd, with 13 winning blocks (5 only from Jannes Van Der Ham) and 10 points from top scorer Maksim Shkredau.
Crvena Zvezda will now compete in the CEV Cup, while Orion Stars move on to the third round of qualifiers.
After a four sets win in Switzerland in four sets,
Romania’s CSM Corona Brasov suffered a defeat on their home soil against Volley Schönenwerd, with the score 2-3 (21:25, 23:25, 25:15, 38:36, 11:15) but, after a 0-2 deficit that would have meant a golden set, they performed a comeback until 2-2, and it was enough to celebrate the promotion to third round.
Ewoud Gommans scored 27 points for the hosts 50% in attack and 2 winning blocks), who struggled against the rivals’ block (15 points from this element for the team from Switzerland compared to 6).
