Austrian champions Hypo Tirol Innsbruck secured a place in the final round of the CEV Champions League qualifiers after defeating HAOK Mladost of Croatia by 3-1 at Zagreb’s Dom Odbojke Bojan Stranic (23:25, 25:20, 18:25, 17:25), after their clear win in first leg at home, and despite the hosts’ 12 winning blocks (7 for the Innsbruck side).
Michael Kyle Paulson and Kyle Hobus led the winners with 13 points each, while Đorđe Jovović on the losing side was the top scorer of the match with 15 points.
Meanwhile, in another qualifier, Olympiacos secured a place in the final round of qualifiers after winning two crucial sets (the second one with the score of 5-25!) against Guaguas Las Palmas, ensuring their advancement despite a 3-2 (25:17, 5:25, 17:25, 25:22, 19:17) defeat in Spain.
The Greek team had previously won 3-0 in the first leg at home, and thus they needed just two sets in the second leg to progress.
Rafail Koumentakis led the winners as their top scorer with 16 points through 75% in attack, while Aleksandar Atanasijevic also contributed with 14. Among the hosts, Nicolás Bruno was the most prolific player for Guaguas Las Palmas, also scoring 16 points (65% in attack and 5 of his team’s 9 aces).
