All easy for Portugal’s Sport Lisboa e Benfica, who destroyed Calcit Kamnik from Slovenia with a clean 3-0 (25:20, 25:20, 25:15) after just 68 minutes of play and 65% of team performance in attack, seasoned by 3 players in doble digit: Diaz Nivaldo and Felipe Banderò, with 13 each (75% in attack for the latter), and André Ryuma, who added 11.
Straight sets win also for Volley Amriswil from Switzerland, who won in Serbia’s capital against the hosts Crvena Zvezda Beograd, with the score of 0-3 (17:25, 19:25, 25:27), with 14 points each from Julian Weisigk and Daniel Urueña.
Another theam who took first step towards next stage of competition was Turkish powerhouse Ziraat Bank Ankara, who celebrated a 1-3 (20:25, 11:25, 25:22, 15:25) in Finland, over the hosts VaLePa Sastamala with 13 winning blocks and 17 points from Olympic Gold medalist Trevor Clevenot (54% in attack and 3 blocks), and Cyprus’ Omonia Nicosia, who won with the same result their home game against Deya Volley Burgas from Bulgaria, 3-1 (20:25, 25:19, 25:19, 25:15), with 18 points from the winners’top scorer Theo Lopes.
Another Turkish powerhouse, Galatasaray HDI Istanbul, struggled more than expected at Hungary’s Kaposvár Aréna, where they managed to beat the hosts Fino Kaposvár only at tie break, 2-3 (25:21, 25:22, 14:25, 18:25), mostly thanks to 22 points from another Olympic winner, Jean Patry (1 ace, 2 blocks and 58% in attack), the same number of points scored by Arpad Baroti for the hosts (60% in attack and 1 ace).
