Second day of 2024/25 CEV Challenge Cup 16th finals and we have already first verdict.
The first team to qualify to 8th finals is Decospan VT Menen, after a double straight sets win over VC Reshetylivka, from Ukraine. After the success of yesterday, the team from Belgium repeated their strong performance to take first avaible ticket for next stage of the competition. Both games were played at CC de Steiger Vauban, in Menen.
Straight sets win also for Finland’s Akaa Volley, who literally destroyed Panvita Pomgrad Murska Sobota from Slovenia, 3-0 (25:19, 25:16, 25:20), after just 69 minutes of play. Better in all elements, the winners were led in score by Jaylen Jasper, top scorer of the match with 15 points through 60% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block, while Antti Taponen added 10 with the same percentage in attack including 4 winning blocks and 3 aces.
The other three games played today ended at tie break.
France’s Tourcoing Lille Métropole won with the score of 2-3 (25:20, 22:25, 13:25, 28:26, 12:15) in Greece, on the field of Panathinaikos Athens with 28 points from Pablo Koukartsev (54% in attack and 3 blocks). Rasmus Nielsen top-scored the hosts with one more point including 2 winning blocks and 57% in attack, but eventually surrendered to the French side after 2 hours and 21 minutes of play.
However, another team from Greece won, PAOK Thessaloniki, who also needed five sets to prevail on the field of Spain’s CV San Roque Las Palmas, 2-3 (25:27, 20:25, 25:14, 26:24, 11:15), with 21 points from Dimitrios Mouchlias (1 ace, 4 blocks and 42% in attack) and 20 from Leonardo Ferreira (3 aces, 1 block and 47% in attack).
Close then picture the away win of Dinamo Bucuresti from Romania in The Netherlands, on the field of Numidia VC Limax Linne, 2-3 (27:25, 18:25, 20:25, 25:15, 17:19).
