In Round 14 of Powerfusion VL Men’s regular season, defending champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team underlined their dominance winning in their Innsbruck Olympiahalle against SK Zadruga Aich/Dob 3-1 (25:23, 25:27, 25:14, 25:19).
On Tuesday, the Blues will host Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in their penultimate CEV Champions League Pool stage game. The Polish top team leads Pool C without a single defeat!
HYPO TIROL already defeated Aich/Dob in national Supercup (3-1) and in the powerfusion VL first half (3-0). This time, titleholders had home advantage and once again lived up to their role as favorite, although the Lower Carinthians were absolutely equal in the first two sets.
For the defending champion, new signing Matej Smidl played briefly in all sets, while top scorers of the match were Kyle Hobus (22), Niklas Kronthaler (16) and Arthur Nath (15), while Carlos Charles Santana (15), Bryan Camino Martinez (11) and Vitor Yamamoto (10) were the most prolific players on the losing side.
One thing is certain: there will be at least one more duel this season, as these two will face each others again in the ÖVV Cup final, and It is almost certain that the Innsbruck team will finish regular season in first place, while Aich/Dob, UVC McDonald’s Ried and TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg are in a battle for second place.
UVC McDonald’s Ried is HYPO TIROL’s closest pursuers, ten points behind. On Saturday evening, the Upper Austrians won against UVC Holding Graz in a tie-break (25:23, 25:22, 16:25, 16:25, 15:13).
Top scorers: Arwin Kopschar (22), Benedikt Sablatnig (18) and Bence Ambrus (13) for Graz, and Borys Zhukov (20), Joachim Hesselholt (11) and Naximilian Schober (10) for the winners.
Kelag Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt remain to the bottom of the standings without a win, losing their home game against VCA Amstetten NÖ 2-3 (22:25, 25:20, 19:25, 25:22, 9:15).
TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien defended 7th place also with a 3-2 (23:25, 22:25, 25:16, 25:16, ) home win over newcomers Sportunion z+p St. Pölten and they are still two points ahead of Amstetten.
The 14th round in Zwettl will conclude with the clash between Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel (6th) and runner-up TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg (3rd).
The visiting side has achieved an important victory in the battle for second place, 1-3 (25:22, 15:25, 16:25, 22:25), led by Lukas Glatz’s 23 points, like Paul Nusterer for the hosts.
