Fifth week of 2024/25 CEV Champions League Pool Stage continues today with other three games.
Pool A leaders PGE Projekt Warszawa cruise to quarterfinals delivering a dominant performance sweeping Greenyard Maaseik 0-3 (19:25, 22:25, 23:25) in Belgium. Jakub Kochanowski earned MVP honors with 10 points through 100% in attack and 1 block, while top scorer Bartłomiej Bołądź also contributed with 14 points (1 ace, 2 blocks and 55% in attack). With this win, the team from Poland’s capital secured first place and a direct quarterfinal spot.
They will face Berlin Recycling Volleys in their final group match with their top position already locked in.
In Pool B, Fenerbahçe Medicana faced a disappointing Fenerbahçe Medicana Istanbul 1-3 (30:28, 23:25, 25:27, 21:25) defeat against Helios Grizzlys Giesen from Germany, at home. Despite standout performances from Drazen Luburic, who led the Istanbul team with 21 points through 58% in attack and Earvin Ngapeth, who contributed 17, Fenerbahçe struggled to find their rhythm. Michiel Ahyi stole the spotlight with a game-high 25 points for the winners including 1 ace, 2 winning blocks and 55% in attack, well supported by Mark Rura’s 19. Fenerbahçe is preparing for a critical match against Olympiacos on January 29, aiming to keep their aspirations of direct advancement to the quarterfinals.
In Pool D, Halkbank secure victory in a five-set thriller in France, on the field of Saint Nazaire VB Atlantique 2-3 (20:25, 25:18, 25:20, 23:25, 11:15). Yoandy Leal, entering the court in the 2nd set, was the man of the match with 21 points through 63% attack, 5 of his team’s 13 aces and 2 winning blocks leading Turkish powerhouse to an important victory, well supported by top scorer Marek Sotola, who added 25 with 1 ace, 1 block and 66% in attack. They will close the group stage on January 29 with a challenging away game against Pool leaders Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia.
