Turkey’s Ziraat Bank Ankara and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów from Poland will face each others in Gran Finale of 2024/25 CEV Cup!
Ziraat Bank Ankara storm into Final after a dominant 3-1 victory (25:17, 25:23, 17:25, 25:20) over italian powerhouse Itas Trentino in the semifinal second leg.
The Turkish side’s strong serving (7 aces) proved too much for the reigning European champions, securing their spot with a 4-2 aggregate win after a tie break defeat in first leg in Italy.
Ziraat Bank wasted no time, sweeping the rivals claiming an early 2-0 lead before the visiting side fought back in the third. But when it mattered most, the home team held firm, with bomber Wouter Ter Maat leading the way with 20 points through 50% in attack and 2 blocks, well supported by Bedhiran Bülbül, who added 14, Trevor Clévenot and Matthew Anderson, who added 13 and 12, respectively.
Alessandro Michieletto scored 19 points for Trento, and Gabi Garcia who added 10 tried to turn the tide, but it wasn’t enough to force golden set.
Asseco Resovia Rzeszów is just one step away from repeating last year’s triumph in the competion.
The Polish team secured a spot in the final after a dominant 0-3 (28:30, 20:25, 22:25) win over Tours VB in the second leg of the semifinals. Despite a tough challenge in the first match in Poland, the winners showed all their strength in France, sweeping the hosts in just three sets.
The victory came with a setback, as star player Bartosz Bednorz suffered an injury late in the second set. The outside hitter, who had been in top form, was forced to leave the court, well replaced by Lukas Vasina. Despite this blow, Resovia held firm and closed the match with a clean 25-22 win in the third set.
Now, the reigning champions will face Ziraat Bankasi Ankara in the final with the first leg that is expected to take place on April 2.
