Allianz Powervolley Milano has officially confirmed outside hitter Francesco Recine for next season and cannot wait to see him back on court for the upcoming SuperLega battles after the serious Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him at the best moment of the season, on March 5, during the first leg of the Challenge Cup semifinal against Izmir.
The Italian international, one of the most beloved players among Milano’s supporters, is continuing his rehabilitation with the determination that has always set him apart.
Ahead of the new season, he speaks candidly about these difficult months away from the taraflex court, his expectations for the future, a summer without the national team, the many new faces at Allianz Milano, and the special bond he has built with the Milan environment.
“To be honest, it’s not easy. I feel like a lion in a cage. Being unable to do anything is hard for someone who has never held back when it comes to hard work and commitment. There have also been a few setbacks along the recovery path that haven’t helped, but the people around me—my family, my girlfriend and my friends—have been by my side since day one, and I owe a great deal to them as well,” he said.
“Watching the national team’s matches and not being there after all these years feels strange. I received messages from many of my teammates with Italy—from Porro and Bovolenta to Bottolo and Laurenzano—who made me realize how much my absence is felt. Those messages meant a lot to me and gave me strength.”
About with Simon, with whom he already played in Piacenza, he said he is very happy and that they built a great relationship in Piacenza.
Outside hitter Francesco Recine will share the court together with Belgian opposite Basil Dermaux, outside hitters Seppe Rotty, Tatsunori Otsuka, Georgi Tatarov, Tommaso Ichino and Federico Argano, middle blockers Robertlandy Simon, Gabriele Di Martino, Filippo Bartolucci and Alessandro Benacchio, liberos Damiano Catania and Jacopo Corbetta, and setter Santiago Orduna.
