The United States menâs national team has finished August exactly as it began it: with a gold medal.
After winning the NORCECA Pan American Cup earlier this month, the Americans completed their golden double on Saturday night in Ponce, Puerto Rico, defeating Canada 3-0 (25:15, 25:18, 25:21) in the final of the 2026 NORCECA Final Six.
It was the perfect conclusion to an outstanding tournament for the United States, which won all seven of its matches on the way to the title.
Against Canada, the Americans produced perhaps their most convincing performance of the competition, controlling the match from the net and never allowing their opponents to build enough momentum to seriously threaten the result.
The numbers tell much of the story. The United States dominated the blocking battle 16-3, while also holding advantages in kills (31-27) and service aces (6-1). More importantly, its serving pressure and defensive organization repeatedly disrupted Canadaâs offense, turning long rallies and transition opportunities into points.
Jacob Pasteur led the way offensively, finishing with a match-high 14 points from 10 kills, three aces and a block. The outside hitter was also one of the teamâs best defensive contributors, collecting five digs. His serving proved particularly damaging, with several of his toughest deliveries forcing Canada into uncomfortable situations.
Sean Kelly was another key figure in the victory. He contributed seven kills, four blocks and an ace for 12 points, while his four blocks tied Tread Rosenthal for the match high. Kelly was especially influential in the decisive third set, when his blocking helped the United States regain control after Canada had threatened to extend the final.
The Americans also received a highly efficient performance from Parker Tomkinson. The middle blocker converted all six of his attacks into kills, adding two blocks for eight points without making an attacking error. Cameron Thorne added four kills and three blocks, while setter Tread Rosenthal combined his distribution duties with an impressive presence at the net, contributing four blocks, a kill and an ace.
Behind them, libero Troy Gooch provided a solid defensive platform throughout the match. He recorded 18 excellent receptionsâseven more than any other player in the matchâhelping the United States maintain control of the first-ball phase and allowing Rosenthal to run an efficient offense.
The final began with the United States immediately imposing its authority. A 6-1 opening run put Canada under pressure from the outset, with Kelly particularly prominent. Pasteur then added a solo block before the Americans continued to increase the gap through aggressive serving and disciplined blocking.
At 13-5, Canada was already facing a substantial deficit. The United States continued to apply pressure, reaching 18-8 and then 23-13 before a Tomkinson kill created set point. Canada handed the Americans the opening set on a hitting error, 25-15.
The second set was considerably more competitive. Canada came out strongly and led 5-1 before the United States gradually found its rhythm. Blocks from Thorne and Rosenthal helped level the score at 6-6, and neither team was able to establish a decisive advantage for several rotations.
That changed when Pasteur put the United States ahead 11-10. From there, the Americans steadily took control. A combination of Canadian errors, Rosenthalâs serving and Pasteurâs attacking widened the gap, with the United States moving from 17-13 to 19-14 and eventually 23-16.
Canada could not find a response. Two further service errors handed the United States the final points of the set, 25-18, leaving the Americans one set away from another international title.
Canada refused to go quietly in the third.
The Canadians established an early advantage and eventually led 15-10, putting themselves in position to extend the match. But the United States responded with its strongest stretch of the evening.
Two Thorne blocks reduced the deficit to 15-13, followed by a Tomkinson block that made it 16-15. Canada still held an 18-16 advantage, but the momentum was beginning to shift.
Pasteur then delivered at both ends of the rally. His back-row attack tied the score at 18-18 before an ace gave the United States its first lead of the set, 19-18.
From there, the Americans took over. Powerful serving disrupted Canadaâs reception and created opportunities for the block, with Kelly producing back-to-back blocks to push the lead to 22-19. Thorne added another block for 23-19, and Kyle Hobusâwho had entered in the third setâjoined the action at the net to produce the block that brought up match point.
Canada saved two opportunities, including one with an ace, but the comeback ended with a service error.
The United States had its gold medal.
For a team still building toward the next major international cycle, the result represents another significant step forward.
Winning two NORCECA titles in the same month, while going unbeaten across seven matches in the Final Six, underlined both the depth of the American roster and its ability to impose its style of play against regional opposition.
In Ponce, the formula was simple but devastatingly effective: pressure from the service line, relentless blocking and enough attacking quality to punish every defensive breakdown.
August has been a month of gold for the United States. And after another dominant performance, the Americans leave Puerto Rico with yet another trophy to show for it.
In Bronze Medal match, Mexico defeated Puerto Rico 3-2 (25:21, 25:18, 21:25, 24:26, 15:12) to claim bronze at the 2026 NORCECA Menâs Final Six!
Itâs Mexicoâs third bronze medal and fourth overall medal in tournament history.
PelegrĂn Vargas led the Puerto Rico once again with 27 points but he wasnât enought, while Yasutaka Sanay and Franky HernĂĄndez top-scored the winners with 18 points each.
Dominican Republic takes fifth place defeating Guatemala 3-0 (25:20, 25:23, 25:18).
