The road to Los Angeles 2028 will pass through Anaheim one year earlier, as the Honda Center prepares to host the final stage of the 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Championship.
The venue in California will welcome the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, bringing the world’s best national teams together for the decisive battles of the tournament.
The choice of venue adds an intriguing dimension to the competition.
Just one year later, the Honda Center is also scheduled to host the men’s and women’s Olympic volleyball tournaments at the LA28 Games. For the teams reaching the final phase of the World Championship, Anaheim could therefore offer an early taste of the atmosphere and surroundings they may encounter when Olympic medals are at stake.
The 2027 World Championship will be co-hosted by the United States and Canada, with the American venues already confirmed.
Alongside Anaheim, the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida, will host group-stage matches and the Round of 16. The Canadian host cities are yet to be announced.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 20 to September 5, 2027, with 32 national teams competing for the world title.
After the opening stages in Omaha, Orlando and Canada, the competition will move to Anaheim for the final stretch.
Eighteen of the 32 participants have already secured their places.
Defending champions Italy, together with co-hosts USA and Canada, received direct qualification, while the remaining teams earned their berths through the five continental championships.
Europe’s three available places went to Türkiye, Serbia and Poland, who reached the EuroVolley 2026 semifinals alongside Italy.
Asia will be represented by Thailand, China and Japan, while Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon qualified from Africa.
Brazil, Argentina and Colombia secured the South American places, with Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico completing the qualified teams from the NORCECA region.
The remaining 14 positions will be allocated according to the FIVB world ranking among national teams that have not yet qualified.
The 2027 World Championship will also play a role in the qualification process for Los Angeles 2028: three of the highest-ranked teams that have not already secured an Olympic quota will receive a direct place at the Games.
That means the Honda Center could become particularly significant for some of the participating nations.
In 2027, they will compete for the world title in Anaheim; one year later, the same venue could welcome them back for the Olympic tournament.
Ticket information is expected to be released in mid-October, alongside the anticipated announcement of the World Championship groups.
