The knockout stage of the CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship got underway in Tunis on Saturday, with Rwanda, Ghana and Morocco all securing their places in the quarterfinals after three straight-set victories.

Rwanda were the first team to advance, overcoming Gambia 3-0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:18). Having already produced a strong performance during the pool stage, Rwanda maintained their momentum in the opening knockout encounter, controlling all three sets and avoiding the complications of a longer match.
Ghana followed with an equally convincing result against Chad.
The West African side claimed a 3-0 victory, winning 25:19, 25:13 and 25:15.
Ghana’s performance became increasingly dominant as the match progressed, with Chad unable to sustain a response after the opening set. The result sends Ghana through to the quarterfinals, adding another important win to their campaign in Tunis.
The day’s final match brought the closest contest of the three.
Morocco defeated DR Congo 3-0 (25:20, 25:21, 29:27), but the scoreline does not tell the entire story of the final set. After Morocco had established a two-set advantage, DR Congo pushed the North Africans to the limit in the third, forcing a dramatic finish that required 56 points before Morocco finally secured the victory.
For Morocco, the result represents another step forward after their pool-stage victory over Gambia and their subsequent defeat to defending champions Egypt. DR Congo, meanwhile, leaves the competition after a campaign that included a victory over the Central African Republic and a four-set defeat to Rwanda.

The opening day of the knockout phase has therefore produced three teams through to the quarterfinals, with Rwanda, Ghana and Morocco continuing their pursuit of continental honours in Tunis.
The remaining Round of 16 matches will determine the other teams joining them in the next stage, as the championship moves closer to its decisive encounters.
