Matey Kaziyski will once again wear the captain’s armband at Halkbank Ankara, continuing his leadership role as the Turkish club prepares for the 2026/27 season. The decision was confirmed during a meeting between the players, coaching staff and club management at Halkbank’s headquarters in Ankara, attended by club president Recep Süleyman Özdil.

One of the most experienced figures in international volleyball, Kaziyski will be an important reference point for a team looking to compete at the highest level in domestic and European competitions.
Özdil underlined the value of the Bulgarian outside hitter’s experience, while stressing the importance of building a squad capable of fighting for results in every tournament.

“We want to see a team on the court with a high fighting spirit, one that understands the responsibility of wearing the Halkbank emblem and fights until the very end in every competition,” he said.

Halkbank have made significant changes to their roster during the summer, bringing in six new players as Radostin Stoytchev shapes his team for the challenges ahead.
Bulgarian international Denislav Bardarov joins the club alongside setter Murat Yenipazar, Brazilian opposite Darlan Souza, Belgian outside hitter Sam Deroo, middle blocker Halit Kurtuluş and opposite Alejandro Rodríguez Fuentes. The new arrivals will join a group that also includes established players such as Kaziyski, whose leadership will be particularly valuable as the team integrates its new additions.
The club’s ambitions extend beyond the immediate season.
Halkbank have a long history of success in Turkish volleyball, including 10 national league titles and nine Turkish Cup victories, alongside achievements in European competition.
The management is determined to build on that record rather than rely on past accomplishments, with the aim of challenging for domestic honours and representing Turkey strongly on the continental stage.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the club’s longer-term development.
Özdil announced plans for a modern sports complex designed to serve both the first team and the club’s young players, underlining Halkbank’s intention to invest in infrastructure and youth development alongside its senior squad.
The gathering concluded with a friendly match between the volleyball players and bank employees, followed by a joint dinner. It offered a chance for the team and the wider Halkbank organisation to come together ahead of a new campaign in which expectations will once again be high.
With Kaziyski continuing as captain and six new players joining the squad, Halkbank enter the 2026/27 season with a blend of experience and fresh options. Their challenge will be to turn that combination into consistent performances in Turkey and Europe, with the Bulgarian veteran remaining at the heart of the team’s leadership.
