After the advance played yesterday, in which Cucine Lube Civitanova won in straight sets on the field of Rana Verona in a remake of last season’s semifinal, Round 1 of new 2026/27 Superlega CredemBanca has been completed today with five matches, delivering three straight-set victories, a historic milestone for Tinet Prata di Pordenone and a dramatic five-set battle between Acqua Sant’Anna Cuneo and defending champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia.
Itas Trentino made an impressive start away to Valsa Group Modena, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza swept aside Pallavolo Padova, and Cisterna Volley produced one of the most convincing performances of the round by defeating Allianz Milano in straight sets.
Trentino’s victory at the PalaPanini was built around a spectacular performance from French opposite Théo Faure, who finished with 23 points, three aces and an outstanding 80% success rate in attack. The visitors won 3-0 (25:21, 25:23, 25:17), handling the decisive moments of the first two sets before taking complete control in the third. Alessandro Michieletto contributed 12 points through 62%, while middle blocker Aleksandar Nedeljkovic added 10. Trentino finished with a 67% attack rate, compared with Modena’s 51%, and also held the advantage in blocking, 9-6, and aces, 7-3.
Faure was deservedly named MVP.
Modena made a promising start to the opening set, taking an early lead, but Trentino gradually found its rhythm and moved ahead at the right moment. The second set was even tighter, with the hosts attempting to stay in touch until the final exchanges, but Marcelo Mendez’s team again proved more effective under pressure. The third set offered less resistance as Trentino secured all three points in front of more than 4,000 spectators. For Modena, both Luca Porro and Nik Mujanović finished with 11 points, but the hosts struggled to match Trentino’s attacking efficiency.
Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza also began the season with a convincing 3-0 away win over Pallavolo Padova (25:19, 25:21, 25:16). The visitors imposed their rhythm from the opening exchanges, putting pressure on Padova with their serve and making the most of their superiority at the net. Piacenza recorded seven aces and nine winning blocks, compared with five aces and four blocks for the hosts. Their attacking efficiency was particularly impressive, with a 57% success rate against Padova’s 38%.
The numbers reflected Piacenza’s control of the match, which lasted just 72 minutes. Alessandro Bovolenta led the winners with 15 points, while young outside hitter Manuel Zlatanov added 14 and Cuban hitter Gutierrez contributed 10. Middle blocker Gianluca Galassi finished with eight points. Setter Paolo Porro received the MVP award for his contribution to a balanced team performance, as Dante Boninfante’s side made an assured start to the campaign. For Padova, Amir Golzadeh was the leading scorer with 14 points, but the home team struggled to find consistent solutions against Piacenza’s block and defence.
Cisterna Volley delivered another statement performance by defeating Allianz Milano 3-0. After a dramatic opening set, won 29-27, the hosts took control of the match and dominated the following two sets, 25-14 and 25-15. The first set proved decisive: Milano had opportunities to close it out but could not convert them, allowing Cisterna to take the lead before moving confidently through the remainder of the contest.
The home side’s statistical advantage was clear. Cisterna scored 13 points from blocks, more than twice Milano’s six, and attacked at 52%, compared with 45% for the visitors. Milano also struggled from the service line, committing 19 serving errors against eight for Cisterna. Giulio Magalini was named MVP after scoring 14 points, while Chinese middle blocker Peng Shikun contributed 12 and Filippo Lanza added 11. For Milano, Belgiam opposite Basil Dermaux led the scoring with 16 points, followed by Japanese outside hitter Tatsunori Otsuka with 14, but their efforts were not enough to prevent a disappointing opening result.
The most dramatic match of the day took place in Cuneo, where Perugia had to recover after losing the first set before surviving a thrilling tie-break. The defending champions eventually prevailed 3-2 (18:25, 25:7, 25:15, 21:25, 25:23) after 136 minutes of play, with more than 4,000 spectators creating an impressive atmosphere. Cuneo started aggressively and took the opening set 25-18, but Perugia responded emphatically, conceding just seven points in the second set before taking the third 25-15.
The hosts refused to surrender, however, and won the fourth set 25-21 to force a decider. The tie-break remained close until the final exchanges, with Perugia eventually sealing the match 25-23. Ferre Reggers led the visitors with 18 points, while Kamil Semeniuk added 13 and Giovanni Sanguinetti and Senastian Solé contributed 11 and 10 respectively. Cuneo’s Nathan Feral was the leading scorer of the match with 22 points, supported by Poriya Khanzadeh with 11 and Ethan Champlin with 12. Perugia’s serving proved important, with the visitors recording 12 aces over the course of the match.
Tinet Prata di Pordenone celebrated a significant milestone by earning their first-ever SuperLega victory, defeating Vero Volley Monza 3-1 (25:22, 19:25, 25:21, 25:23) in their new home at the PalaCrisafulli. After taking the opening set, Prata lost the second as Monza found a better rhythm, but the hosts responded with greater effectiveness in the third and fourth sets. Their blocking made a major difference, helping them keep Monza under pressure and protect their advantage during the decisive exchanges.
Wout D’Heer was named MVP after an outstanding performance, finishing with 18 points. Opposite Klets added 17, while Monza’s top scorer was Diego Frascio with 16 points to his name. Monza pushed hard in the fourth set and recovered from a significant deficit, drawing level at 23-23 after a strong serving rotation from Petkov, but Prata held their nerve to close out the match 25-23. The result gave the Friulian club an important first victory in the top division and a memorable opening in front of its home supporters.
The opening round has already offered a variety of early signals. Trentino and Piacenza looked efficient and well organised, Cisterna impressed with their blocking and attacking balance, and Perugia demonstrated the resilience expected of the reigning champions. Prata, meanwhile, celebrated a landmark result in their first SuperLega home match, while Cuneo showed that they can make life difficult even for the strongest opponents. With the first points on the board, the teams will now turn their attention to the second round on Sunday 25 October.
