VNL 2022: Three points for Italy, Slovenia and Poland

In first match of the day of Pool 6 in Gdansk, Poland, Italy defeat Iran in four sets (25:16, 25:27, 25:23, 25:23) to take their 8th success in 19 games in 2022 Volleyball Nations League. They are now at first place again in the standings with 25 points. In this match, Ivan Zaytsev back to the sextet and ended the game as top scorer with 18 points. 13 from Galassi and Michieletto, and 12 from Lavia also contributed to the success of final 8 hosts.
In second game of the day, Stern send Slovenia into VNL Finalsā qualification zone!
With 18 points of their opposite, they defeat Bulgaria in four sets (25:22, 22:25, 25:18, 25:16) and pass Iran in the standings to remain on track in the VNL.
This victory placed in fact Slovenia inside the qualification zone in eighth place as the Europeans now have the same five wins as Iran, but hold a one-point advantage over their Asian rivals (15 to 14), who lost to Italy in previous game. The competition between the two teams for a spot in the Finals will continue on Friday, when they meet at 17.00 local time (15.00 GMT).
Outside hitters Klemen Cebulj and Rok Mozic also contributed adding 14 points.
āItās very nice to be with this group, theyāre amazing,ā the 20-year-old Mozic said after the game. āBeing the youngest on the squad comes with some responsibilities, but these guys are great. They were my idols growing up and itās very nice to play with them.ā
Bulgariaās top scorers in the match were outside hitters Martin Atanasov with 15 points (12 attacks, two aces, one block), and Aleksandar Nikolov, with 13 (ten attacks and three blocks).
They are currently ranked 15th in the competition with one win and six points and will have two more matches, the first of which will be against the Netherlands, to try to remain ahead of Australia (one win, two points) and secure their presence in the VNL 2023.
They can no longer qualify for the Finals.
Close the picture hosts Poland’s
straight sets win over China 3-0 (26:24, 25:16, 25:18). With eight victories and 25 points, Nikola Grbic’s side has booked a ticket for final 8 in Bologna!
