Turkey: Ziraat prevail in big match over Arkas. Halkbank at 6-0!

Two matches played today closed Round 6 of the 2022/23 Turkish AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi.

After losing to Halkbank in the previous round, Arkas fell to another title favorite, Ziraat Bankkart, after which it’s clear they don’t possess the quality to interfere in the battle for title. At least, for now.
Ziraat proved better than the Izmir side in five sets to reach their fifth win (with only one defeat) in the season to which they were led by the Dutchman Wouter ter Maat, who ended the game with 24 points, and Bedirhan Bülbül, who also contributed with 6 blocks. Mirza Lagumdžija in Arkas’ jersey scored a match-high 28 points, while Burutay Subaşı served 5 aces on the losing side.

Led by Argentine Nicolás Bruno, top scorer with 12 points and Volkan Döne (72% reception; 18 digs, 1 error, 56% perfect), the vice-champions Halkbank Ankara routinely defeat the home team of Tokat Belediye Plevne without major problems to remain the only undefeated side in the competition with a perfect score of 6-0.
