Poland triumphantly secured their second gold medal in the European Volleyball Championships, defeating former titleholders Italy in just three sets (25:20, 25:21, 25:23).
This time Poland is too strong, and performed brilliantly in front of a roaring crowd of 11,300 at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, in a remake of final of last World Championship, won by Ferdinando De Giorgiโs side.
The final match was marked by great performances from Wilfredo Leon (named MVP of the game) and Norbert Huber of Poland, who scored 13 and 12 points (including 5 aces and 2 blocks) respectively.
For Italy, Danijele Lavia matched Leon with 13 points (with 55% in attack and 2 winning blocks), and Alessandro Michieletto scored 10.
However, to make the difference, is the performance from the service line.
In fact, numbers are clear: as many as 11 aces for Poland, 33% positive reception for the rivals.
With this victory, Poland celebrated a Gold Medal like in 2009, when they clinched their first European title in Turkey.
