Eurovolley2023: Italy triumphs over a non-existent France, eyes on Gold again

In a repeat of their last success, in 2021, hosts and titleholders Italy has once again advanced to the EuroVolley final.
And they did it with a convincing 3-0 win (25:21, 25:19, 25:23) over a very disappointing France, that took place in the breathtaking arena of Rome’s Palazzo dello Sport, cheered on by a crowd of 10,000 amazed supporters.

This match marked the 149th encounter between these two volleyball giants, with Italy who scored today their 79th victory over France.
This game was one-sided, with Italy soon took charge, setting a formidable rhythm and the rivals on the other side of the net never started to play.
Yuri Romanò emerged as Italy’s top scorer with 15 points through 58% in attack, well supported by Daniele Lavia and Alessandro Michieletto, who contributed 13 and 9 points respectively.
For France, Barthélémy Chinenyeze led the scoreboard with 10 points and 67% in attack, and he was the only player in double digit.

Italy will face Poland on Saturday, who defeated Slovenia in first semifinal, and both side will be competing for the prestigious gold medal, a title that Italy clinched back in 2021 in Katowice after overpowering Slovenia in the final.
Meanwhile, Slovenia and France will play for the bronze in the third-place showdown.
