Round 20 of 2023/24 Superlega Credem Banca, Round 9 of second leg, started today with first two games.
At Opiquad Arena, in first advance, the hosts Mint Vero Volley Monza trampled over already relegated Farmitalia Catania, 3-0 (25:17, 25:19, 25:17).
A nightmarish start for Catania, who suffered the rivals’ play first 5-0 and then even 21-6, also thanks to Monza’s block, with 7 points from this element only in first set, and a great Eric Loeppky, author of 4 aces. In second set Catania fought,
even taking a lead 5-7 and then also 9-11, before the decisive break of the hosts, 16-12, and the same happened in third set, with Catania fighting only in the first half.
For the winners, on the other hand, 3 very important points for upcoming playoffs. No in fact they have 33 points in the standings, just like Rana Verona, at +3 from Allianz Milano. These two will face each others tomorrow, at Milano’s Allianz Cloud!
Not a good moment for Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza who, after the two stops against Monza and Verona, suffered the third heavy defeat in a row against Gioiella Prisma Taranto, 2-3 (23:25, 25:21, 21:25, 29:27, 13:15), in front of their home fans.
Andrea Anastasi’s team even risked to collapse in four sets, saved by an ace from Lucarelli in fourth set after three match points failed by the rivals who, however, won their ninth tie-break played in the ongoing season.
Josè Miguel Gutièrrez, absolute top scorer of the match, put down as many as 32 points for Taranto.
