After the win of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin over titleholders Jastrzębski Węgiel in an exciting game played yesterday, PGE Projekt Warszawa secured a dramatic 3-2 (25:22, 25:20, 17:25, 19:25, 15:12) victory over Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in Game 1 of 2024/25 PlusLiga semifinals.
The team from country’s capital started strong, taking the opening two sets (25:22, 25:20), but the rivals battled back to level the match by winning the next two (17:25, 19:25) without major problems, until the decisive tie-break that saw the hosts regain momentum, securing a well-deserved win 15:12 and avenging their loss to Aluron in the Polish Cup semifinals.
The best-of-three series continues with the second match scheduled for April 23 in Sosnowiec.
Top scorers included Linus Weber with 20 points to his name, well supported by Artur Szalpuk, who added 13, MVP Jakub Kochanowski who also contributed with 12 through 60% in attack and 3 winning blocks, and Kevin Tillie, who tallied 11. Karol Butryn scored 19 points on the losing side.
Meanwhile, in series for 5th place, ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle won on the field of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów with the score of 1-3 (25:20, 22:25, 22:25, 18:25).
