Welcome to the 67th episode of VolleyBar!
Today, August 18, as we reminded you on our social media channels, is Never Give Up Day, an international observance dedicated to celebrating resilience, determination, and the unyielding spirit of individuals and communities. Officially recognized on August 18, it inspires people worldwide to remain steadfast in their pursuits, even in the face of adversity.
Cultivate a mindset of never giving up, and support others who are still working hard to reach their goals, whether achievable tasks or ambitious dreams!
It is about motivating and inspiring ourselves and others, as well as remembering people that have never given up on those.
And we should use this day not only to applaud people for reaching their goals but also to support those who are still trying to achieve their goals and have not quite got there yet.
And what better way to celebrate it than with a few volleyball stories?
In Poland, Fabian Drzyzga returns to TAURON Liga with Cuprum Stilon GorzĂłw!
Two-time World Champion. Polish champion. One of the most decorated Polish setters of the 21st century.
And from the 2026/27 season, he will be a Cuprum Stilon GorzĂłw player.
Drzyzga was part of the Polish national team that won the World Championship in 2014 and 2018. With Poland, he also collected medals at the European Championship, World Cup and Volleyball Nations League.
In 2021, he was named the VNLâs Best Setter.
He has also written plenty of memorable chapters at club level, representing teams including Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, Olympiacos Piraeus and Fenerbahçe. His honours include a Polish championship title, a CEV Cup, a Russian championship and numerous domestic trophies.
Now, it is time for GorzĂłw Wielkopolski â and for Drzyzga to return to the Polish league.
In Italy, the new season is slowly taking shape for defending champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia.
Among the âexcused absencesâ is also Oleh Plotnytskyi, who has returned to the Ukrainian national team after missing out on some international commitments in previous summers. For the Ukrainian outside hitter, the summer has already provided plenty to celebrate, with Ukraine reaching the VNL Finals for the first time in its history. Read more on our colleague Daniloâs article.
The 2026/27 season is also about to begin for Cisterna Volley, with the teamâs first gathering scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19.
The morning will be dedicated to medical examinations, while in the afternoon the team will hold its first training session at the Palasport di via delle Province.
Eight players will be present during this initial stage, together with the coaching staff.
Among the new arrivals will be setter Vilmos Szabo, outside hitters Giulio Magalini and Lorenzo Magliano, and liberos Filippo Federici and Francesco Pierri. They will be joined by opposite Tommaso Barotto and returning players Filippo Lanza and Daniele Mazzone.
The remaining members of the roster will join the group at different stages, once they have completed their commitments with their respective national teams.
And so, little by little, another season begins. New faces, familiar names, national-team commitments and plenty of unfinished business â exactly what we like to see at the start of a new volleyball year.
Teodor Salparovâs remarkable volleyball career will be celebrated on September 5 at Arena 8888 in Sofia, where his testimonial match, One Career â One Legend, will bring together current internationals, former stars and prominent figures from Bulgarian sport.
On this day: 10 years since a golden night in Copacabana!
Ten years ago, Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt sent Brazilian fans into celebration by winning Olympic gold at Rio 2016.
It was a historic triumph on home soil, in an unforgettable arena on Copacabana Beach. A magical night that still shines brightly in the memory of Brazilian beach volleyball.
Four Teams set for the Samdech Thipadei Cup.
Four teams will compete in the Samdech Thipadei Cup, a friendly tournament hosted by the Volleyball Federation of Cambodia from August 19-25:
