Egyptian and African volleyball legend Megahed dies of COVID-19

Azmi Megahed, one of the best ever volleyball players in Africa and Egyptian volleyball star, passed away at the age of 70 in Cairo, following a struggle with the COVID-19 disease.
Megahed is a legend of volleyball in Egypt but also of Africa, in general. He played for his country’s national team for 16 years and participated at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. He had won the Best African Volleyball Player award in 1974.
On a club level, he wore the jersey of the country’s powerhouse Zamalek SC most of his professional career. Later, he became its head coach and board member.
As a player and coach, he won many individual awards, both at home and on the continent.
Until recently, he worked as a political commentator and TV presenter.
