Brazil: first defeat for Minas! Also Renata KO in Round 16

3 min read

All Superliga Round 16 has been played on European night.
Against all predictions, leader Minas suffered their first seasonal defeat, 2-3 at home against a Funvic led by Elian Mazorra (25 points, 59% and 46% efficiency in attack, 1 block and 1 ace). Nery Tambeiro, without Vissotto, started with Leozinho opposite, Marcus Coelho outside hitter and Kelvi middle-blocker in place of Pinta, to then correct the sextet from second set with Pinta’s return, Sanchez Bozhulev opposite and Leozinho back to his regular position of outside-hitter. Losing second set and dominating third and fourth set, they failed to complete fifth set, punished by 8 points of MVP Mazorra (73% in attack only in this partial).
Defeat also for Renata Campinas who, without Lucas, Evandro e Temponi (and Gonzalez started from the bench) surrendered at tie break against a Blumenau led by Renan Bonora (24 points, 55% in attack and 2 blocks).
Despite the heavy absence of Franco Paese (well replaced by Deivid Silveira, fielded as opposite), Guarulhos wins in only three sets (with a comeback from 10-16 in third set) against Sao José dos Campos.
On the other matches, easy 3-0 with turnover of Sada Cruzeiro against Brasilia, 3-0 also for Sesi over modest Goias and victory with the same result also for Montes Claros over last-placed Uberlandia.
