VNL 2023: Italy destroy an unrecognizable Argentina and join USA to semifinals

If the first game of the daywas an exciting tie break between USA and France, in the second clash World Champions Italy were on fire against Argentina in Gdańsk, Poland.

The Europeans had a very good performance against Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists (who, however, played really a terrible match) celebrating 3-0 (25:17, 25:13, 25:14) quarterfinal victory at the Ergo Arena.
Back in the VNL semifinals for a second-straight season, the winners will now face the United States, and they will try to win their first VNL medal after finishing fourth in 2022.
Top scorer of the match outside hitter Alessandro Michieletto, who ended the game with 15 points including one block and one ace, while fellow outside hitter Daniele Lavia also contributed with 12 points (11 kills, one block), opposite Yuri Romanò with 11 (and one block too) and middle blocker Roberto Russo added another ten including three blocks and three aces.
Middle blocker Agustin Loser was the only Argentinean player to reach a double digits with ten points including two blocks and one ace. Behind him, opposite Pablo Kukartsev scored only six points!
Italy was also dominant in the match stats, getting more points than the Argentineans in kills (44 to 26), blocks (nine to four), aces (five to two) and opponent errors (17 to 12).

The VNL 2023 quarterfinals continue tomorrow, on Thursday.
Japan and Slovenia will play the first match of the day, at 5pm local time, while hosts Poland and Brazil will face each other at 8pm local time.
