Champions League: Ziraat destroy ZAKSA in the opener of 4th week

Fourth week of 2023/24 CEV Champions League started today with the clash between defending champions Grupa Azoty Kęrzierzyn-Kozle and Ziraat Bank Ankara, ended with a clear 0-3 (21:25, 17:25, 21:25) in favor of the Turkish side, who confirmed themselves to the top of Pool A with 11 points.
This marks ZAKSA’s second loss in this edition of the competition, having previously fallen to the same Ziraat with a score of 2-3 in an away game, while the winners secured this important win with a remarkable 10 kill blocks, leaving ZAKSA in second place with two wins and two losses.
The U.S. international, Matt Anderson ended the game as top scorer with 15 points, earning him the MVP award, while his teammate Wouter Ter Maat also contributed 14 points. Bartosz Bednorz led the scoring for ZAKSA with 12 points.
In front of 1900 fans in Azoty Kędzierzyn-Koźle hall, Ziraat Bank Ankara dominated the match, especially with their strong serving and a solid performance at the net. Despite some effort to turn the tables in the second set, the hosts couldn’t regain control, collapsing in just 3 sets.
