Poland: three points for Lublin and Warszawa in first games of Round 19

After the midweek Round 18, closed on Thursday, Round 19 of 2023/24 Plusliga started today with first two scheduled games.
In the first one, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin needed just three sets to down PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów, struggling only in second set (25:17, 27:25, 25:19), in front of 3537 home fans.
The winners, absolutely better than the rivals in blocking, scoring 10 points from this element agaist only 2 of Bełchatów, were led in score by Alexandre Ferreira (59% in attack and 1 block) and MVP Damian Schultz (46% in attack and the only ace of Lublin), who closed the game with 14 points each, supported by Tobias Brand, who added 12.
Bartłomiej Lipiński and Adrian Aciobăniței were the most prolific players on the losing side with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
In what was a direct clash for 6th and 7th place, today’s winners now boasted 34 points in the standings, -1 from No.5 Trefl Gdańsk who, on Tuesday, will play on the field of Cuprum Lubin, while Bełchatów remain at No.7 with 27 points, just at +1 from Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-KoÅŗle.
In the second game of the day, straight sets win also for Projekt Warszawa who had no problems on the field of Barkom Każany Lwów – 0-3 (17:25, 13:25, 19:25).
With this result, the team from country’s capital reaches again the second place in the standings, temporarily at -1 from leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel, who will play on the field of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów tomorrow, and at +3 from Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, who will play tomorrow too on the field of GKS Katowice.
MVP of the match libero Damian Wojtaszek, almost perfect in reception but not only, but to make the difference also an impressive performance in attack, with 68% of effectiveness and 12 winning blocks, while Bartłomiej BołądÅŗ was the most prolific player of the match with 14 points to his name though 81% in attack and 1 block.
No players on the losing side ended the game in double digit.
